I will not be teaching Planning 10 this year!
I'm baaaackkkkk......Hi Everyone, Just in case you are actually checking (and I really doubt that you are!) I wanted to let you know that I will be back at Matheson this year! YAYAYAYAYAYAY! Unfortuanetly, I don't get to teach any grade 11 classes but I will still be around if you have questions or just want to pop in and say Hi! Enjoy the rest of your summer....It's going quick! See you soon,
Ms. Kenkel
Just in case....
I know that some of you mentioned that you would check the blog during the summer on new about whether or not I will be back at Matheson, and just in case you are actually doing that, I just wanted to let you know that I do not yet know. Keep your fingers crossed!
Hope you are having a great summer and enjoying the weather! Stay Cool!
Ms. Kenkel

This is the end.....

wow! I really cannot believe that we have come to the end of the semester already. I hope that you have had a much fun in the course as I have....
Your final assignment for the semester will be an interview with me. This interview will be one on one and will take place Thursday during class (and Friday if we need the time). It will not be anything too intense however I wanted to model the Grad Transitions Exit Interview for you.
The interview itself will be about 5 minutes long. While I am not going to tell you exactly what I am going to ask you here are some hints:
1) The assignment you are most proud of.
2) Something you could have worked harder at.
3) What did you learn in this course? (Either curriculum or about yourself)
4) What did you enjoy/ not enjoy?
5) Why is Planning an important course.
* You are not required to dress up for the interview however you are welcome to if you like.
have a good last week,
Ms. Kenkel

PS: make sure that you are checking the Portfolio sheet for things that you have learned so far.

Missing Assignments...Already

As I write this post I have just finished marking the few (only 4 things!!!) that you have completed so far in this course. I am already saddened and upset about the fact that so many people are already missing assignments. We discussed on the first day that in order to be successful in Planning you MUST hand everything in. There is going to be little or no homework in the class and the fact that people are missing assignments tells me that you are not taking advantage of the time I am giving you in class.
If you think that you are missing anything please see me and please hand in any missing work ASAP!

Focus Areas

Focus Areas are based on courses and programs available at secondary
schools and post-secondary institutions in BC.

They are:
-Business and Applied Business
-Fine Arts, Design, and Media
-Fitness and Recreation
-Health and Human Services
-Liberal Arts and Humanities
-Science and Applied Science
-Tourism, Hospitality, and Foods
-Trades and Technology

Research shows that students are more likely to succeed in school when they are interested in what they are learning. The goals of these focus areas are to allow students the opportunity to focus their courses within their interests.

“Integrating these approaches helps students connect learning from individual
courses to their role in the broader community and to their
personal plans for the future. Encouraging students to make this
connection and to reflect on their choices will help ensure they are well prepared
to build successful futures.” – Ministry of Education

Olympic Torch Relay Song

This link will direct you to the Olympic Torch relay video. Everytime that I watch it I get a little bit teary eyed. The Olympic torch is coming past Matheson on Tuesday the 9th and the opening ceremonies of the Olympic games in Vancouver are on Friday the 12th.

Imagine

This is by far one of my favorite songs ever. Click on the YouTube link and listen to the song. When the song is done write a one page double-spaced response to the song. It can be a reaction to the song, a discussion of what Lennon talked about, really anything just respond to how listening to the song made you feel. When you are done please save the file in your student file. If you do not yet have access to your student file please save to the desktop.

Welcome

Welcome to Planning 10
This website will be used throughout the semester as a tool for me to get information to you faster and more efficiently. By using this website, we will be able to save paper and it will be easier for you to find assignments should you miss a day.
Planning 10 is a required course for graduation that has some assignments/ projects that you must complete, but other than that I hope to be able to integrate your interests into the course as much as possible. I am very much looking forward to teaching this course again, and I hope that you are looking forward to it as well.
The biggest suggestion that I have for you to be successful in this course is to ensure that you are here as much as possible and that you complete all of your assignments. Other than that, I hope that you have fun with the course.
I look forward to learning with all of you, especially when it comes to using technology which is not always my friend. (As some of you already know!)
Ms. Kenkel

Planning 10 Sexually Transmitted Infections

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) are types of infections that are spread through sexual contact.

In Canada, some of the highest rates and increases in STIs are in young people 15 to 24years of age.

There are many types of STI. Some are easily cured with medication prescribed by your doctor. Some have no cure. (Alberta Health Services)

To learn more about the symptoms of different types of STI, how they are diagnosed and treated, go to
Health Link BC. Use the alphabet listing to search for each infection. Then, fill in the correct information on the table provided on your assignment sheet.
